Expanding on the massive success of the Netflix documentary 'Fantastic Fungi' about the magical, mysterious and medicinal world of fungi. Director Louie Schwartzberg wanted to grow the reach of the brand - and mushrooms themselves.

how might we build on the global brand equity of the fantastic fungi documentary to be the ultimate portal for all things mushroom, leading the movement for a more sustainable future?

the ask

Boombang was brought into the project to help pave a path for franchise expansion & commercialization under the Fantastic Fungi name. Our team provided strategic support - helping to grow a roster of investors, advisors, and operators - and offered design support along the way.

my role

I was in charge of art direction for the project, tasked with carrying forward the legacy (and brand recognition) of the fantastic fungi documentary into a whole new world of mycelial e-commerce.  This spanned updated visual branding,  packaging design, web design, and more.

The demand for functional mushroom products has greatly increased over the past two years and is projected to continue to see double digit CAGR for the next 3-5 years. FF approached us to capitalize on this with their curated mushroom subscription box service.

Featuring highlighted artists' work and stories thematic to each month's box, FF boxes mix and match various consumable, durable and topical mushroom based products.

Fantastic Fungi's new website was designed to serve as a content creation platform for all things mushroom.  The site take's our guests on a journey of inspiration, entertainment and education that serves as the e-commerce gateway to the brand's products, events and merchandise.
